ff: with moonlight in your hand (part 2)

Title: with moonlight in your hand (part two)
Pairing: Sloan Sabbith/Don Keefer
Fandom: The Newsroom
Word Count: ~2,200 (this part)
Rating: PG-13 (think the show, with the accompanying language)
A/N:  Yes, this is still happening.  Very slowly, but still happening. (I had to remind myself how to post to livejournal, sheesh).  Thanks to the lovely mimssio for doing cracker-jack job betaing even though she doesn't watch the show, and to Jaclyn who does and read for characterization and coherence.

Timeline note:  A few reviewers have left me notes saying my timeline was off because Don only worked for Will for 13 weeks. So in case there are others thrown by this, this story and the timeline, a crash course:   Don was Will's Executive Producer for 13 weeks. What he did before that is something of a black box, but there is at least canon evidence to support that he was around ACN for that time (He says he was dating Maggie off and on for four months, and thanks Will for promoting him up as fast as he did). So I've taken that notion and run with it, starting this story a little less than a year before Mac shows up, and setting Don up as the Senior Producer for NewsNight (Jim's current job) at the start of it. I have plans to address both Maggie and the how and why of Don getting promoted despite being younger and less experienced than the EP of a flagship show like NewsNight probably should be. I hope this answers the timeline concerns. And now onto the show.

Title: with moonlight in your hand (part one)
Pairing: Sloan Sabbith/Don Keefer
Fandom: The Newsroom
Word Count: ~5,300 (this part)
Rating: PG-13 (think the show, with the accompanying language)
A/N:  So in a turn of events which should shock absolutely no one who follows me on tumblr, the thing that finally got me writing again was the intriguing chemistry between these two characters on The Newsroom.  I've shipped them since the moment Don yelled her name in "Bullies," but after the season finale I've become convinced that these two have known each other since before the series premiere.  Therefore in a stunning act of stupidity and self-aggravation, I am attempting a gap-fill fic for a Sorkin show.  Wish me luck!

Rumors of My Death . . .

. . . are really only slightly exaggerated.

This is really mostly a drive by post.  But hopefully will signal the start of a little bit more activity on this journal again.

So for those of you who don't know, I work a job that is extremely crisis sensitive.  I can go along for months on a regular schedule, but when a crisis hits it can hit without warning and swallow my life for months to over a year at a time (yes, fun times for all).  Anyway point being, that's what happened at the beginning of March and I'm really only now just starting to come out of it.  I literally looked out my window the other day and wondered when I missed spring.

Things seem to be slowing down a little, but it's thrown my fandom life into a little bit of disarray.  Obviously there are Parks stories that need to be picked up and revisited and I've actually spent this whole back half of the season two to three weeks behind the curve so I'm trying to rediscover my energy there.

In the meantime, I'm giving you fair warning that other pairings and fandoms are starting to encroach and tug at my fic instincts particularly my darker ones which as much as I love Parks and Leslie/Ben, I'm also a writer whose previous pairing of choice was Dexter/Lumen so there's kind of a unfulfilled need there.  So things you may see showing up in the next few months as I try to find my talent:

1)  Supernatural:  Castiel/Meg -- This is almost a given, I'm signed up to do a story for them for the het_bigbang this summer because obviously I've spent too much time writing for a pairing everyone likes, its time to tackle an unpopular one again

2) Once Upon a Time:  Rumpel/Belle

3) Revenge:  Nolan/Emily

Patchwork Heart (Part 4)

Title: Patchwork Heart
Pairing: Leslie/Ben (AU)
Word Count: ~7,900 (this part)
Rating: R? (Let's say R, there is a huge amount of swearing in this, and also sexual imagery)
Timeline: Highschool Alt!Universe (yeah you read that right)
A/N:  I bet you guys thought I was never going to get back to this.  I have been struggling with this part for almost four months, and I apologize for that.  And apologize if some of that struggle shows around the edges.  But I hope it's still fairly enjoyable, and at least it moves us forward.
Summary:  When Ben Wyatt is a junior in high-school his father gets remarried to a woman who wields a day-planner like a weapon.  And the next thing he knows he lives down the hall from a girl who believes she can change the world with a letter-jacket, a tiara and a can-do attitude.  And he kind of thinks she might be right.  And he kind of thinks he might be in love with her.  And he's pretty sure this is a problem.  But whatever, no one seems to care what he thinks anyway.

[Response to an [info]nbckink prompt that wanted a Highschool Alt!universe fic where Leslie and Ben were step-siblings (yeah that happened).]

Title: still so far out of reach (part 2)
Pairing: Leslie/Ben (AU)
Word Count: ~7,000 (this part)
Rating: PG-13 this part (R over all)
Timeline/Summary: Alt!Universe with Leslie as President of the USA and Ben is one of her secret service agents. (p.s. Everything I know about the Whitehouse or the Secret Service I learned from watching the West Wing and some minimal internet research.  And of course it's still Parks and Leslie. A certain suspension of disbelief is warranted.)

Sadness Baths and Geopolitical Problem Solving: Aka Cy has thoughts

Normally I would just post this over on tumblr but it's long and tumblr hates me right now.  So the point is I have now seen 'The Treaty' twice and have watched the preview clip for 'Smallest Park'.  And given this and what I've read of the spoilers for the next two episodes, I have some thoughts that I'm working through regarding this arc.

These thoughts then merge into some more general considerations regarding what I'm doing with Take a Bow.

FF: Take a Bow (Part 1)

Title: Take a Bow (Part 1)
Pairing: Leslie, Ben, Leslie/Ben (with cameos by almost everyone else)
Word Count: ~7,900 (this part)
Rating: PG-13
Timeline: This starts after 4x03 "Born and Raised" and will proceed to move through canon up to 4x06 "End of the World" at which point it will likely take a hard left unless canon really surprises me.
Author's Note: Don't look at me like that.  Okay fine you can look at me like that, but I'd like it if you would still read.  The thing is it turns out I had serious feelings regarding this season that were starting to infect my alt!universe fics in non-positive ways, so this was my attempt to work them out in as unvarnished a fashion as I could by trying to fill in as much of the character gaps as I possibly could.  The first two chapters are essentially canon companion pieces to the season running from 4x03 to 4x06 after which it will veer off into my own personal playground, so it starts out rough, but it will get better.

Acknowledgments:  This season has been a little bit like meeting the character anew for me and I have gotten help from a huge number of people with that.  rikyl who has preread bits and pieces of this and helped to make it better.  saucydiva and shornt who convinced me not to scrap the idea at the get go.  And popgurlie and kyrieanne who have let me talk to them at length in an effort to clarify the characters in my head.

Summary:  Ben and Leslie deal (or don't) with the breakup each in their own way and along the way take a hard look at the choices they've made and the future they want.

Title: still so far out of reach (1/3)
Pairing: Leslie/Ben (AU)
Word Count: ~5,000 (this part)
Rating: PG-13 this part (R over all)
Timeline/Summary: Alt!Universe with Leslie as President of the USA and Ben is one of her secret service agents. (p.s. Everything I know about the Whitehouse or the Secret Service I learned from watching the West Wing and some minimal internet research.  And of course it's still Parks and Leslie. A certain suspension of disbelief is warranted.)
Author's Note: Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated . . . I know, I know I owe you guys an update to Patchwork (and Hand Me Downs for those reading that), and I promise they will come. I had absolutely no intention of starting a new fic with those two still hanging out there, but I have had the longest two months at work of my life and that seemed to precipitate an unfortunate case of writers block, so when I saw this prompt and it wormed it's way into my head I was just grateful for something flowing for me.  And I thought I'd do my part to help the hiatus withdrawal. Mea culpa

Rating: R over the long term, PG13 this part
Timeline: Post 'Lil' Sebastian'
Author's Note: For those of you who've been reading this over on nbckink the back half of this chapter is brand new for you.
Summary:  When Leslie breaks up with Ben to pursue her dream of holding political office, the last place he expects to find a friend is Ann Perkins.  But sometimes people surprise you . . .
